Scrap Remediation Ministry – Akufo-Addo Lecturer

Dr Jonathan-Asante Otchere, a political analyst and senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, says it would be prudent for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources after the resignation of the former minister, Ms Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

According to him, since the Ministry of Natural Resources exists, there is no need to maintain another Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.

“I realized that we have a Minister of Natural Resources who is headed by Abu Jinapor, while Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah was also the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources. So the question I keep asking is, aren’t water resources part of natural resources?” Dr. Jonathan-Asante Otchere had this to say in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

“This is an overlap, the president should have taken the opportunity to collapse the ministry after the reign of Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah,” he added.

He argued that since there is so much spending in government, there is a need to dismantle the ministry, especially when there is too much spending on its hands that has killed the country in the IMF.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in a press release said embattled former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Abena Dapaah was arrested on suspicion of corruption and corruption-related offenses following her resignation as minister following revelations that she had hidden a large amount of cash in her bedroom, some of which was stolen by two of her “domestic helpers”.

In a press release dated July 24, 2023 and signed by the special prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, Ms. Dapaah, who was arrested today, is being questioned by her team about the large amount of cash and other valuables belonging to her that were stolen from her bedroom.

This comes after court documents revealed that Ms. Dapaah had sued two of her maids for allegedly stealing $1 million, €300,000, millions of cedis and some jewelry.
