Violence erupted between the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Correctional Services, at the Ikoyi Federal High Court, over which agency will have custody of Goodwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Recall that the court granted Emefiele bail but ordered the Nigerian Correctional Service to keep the suspended CBN governor in its custody pending the perfection of his bail.
However, sensing that DSS operatives were planning to re-arrest Emefiele, the Nigerian Correctional Service decided to intervene, insisting that the court order expressly ordered them to have custody of Emefiele. Things got out of hand and the two agencies began trading blows.
Meanwhile, Emefiele’s lawyers are still sitting in court as the judge tries to persuade DSS to allow the defendant to perfect his bail terms instead of re-arresting him.
