Those who fear that Atiku will regain his rule sent Boko Haram to silence him – PDP

The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has said those concerned by its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s attempt to regain his mandate are behind the plot to silence him.

The PDP called for a full investigation into the attempt by Boko Haram members to attack Atiku.

DAILY POST reported that four suspected Boko Haram members have been arrested over a plot to attack Atiku and some sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa state.

In reaction, PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba said the party is alarmed by the reported foiled terror attack in Atiku.

A statement from Ologunagba reads in part: “The PDP insists that, from the confession of the arrested assailants, the plot bears the hallmarks of a sponsored attempt on the life of Atiku Abubakar, apparently by forces uneasy about his attempt to regain his mandate in the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).

“Our party believes that the intent of the sponsors of this evil plot is to silence our presidential candidate, slaughter innocent Nigerians and cause chaos, confusion and lawlessness in politics.

“The PDP asks, is this foiled attack on Atiku Abubakar and sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa related to the APC’s recent threats of chaos and lawlessness in the country, if the PEPC upholds the clear provisions of Section 134 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) regarding the mandatory and legal requirements by which a candidate in a presidential election can be declared the winner?”
