A man who was arrested in Oceanside last month before being hospitalized and dying nine days later while receiving medical care has succumbed to natural causes, authorities said Wednesday.
Zeke Davis, 43, died around 3:30 p.m. last Saturday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Davis had been arrested June 28 on suspicion of violating a temporary restraining order, resisting arrest and hitting a law enforcement officer.
While he was being booked in the Vista Detention Center, Jail staff medically examined Davis and determined he should be taken to a hospital for evaluation of a “pre-existing medical condition,” Sheriff’s Lt. Joseph Jarjura said. At Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Davis was admitted for treatment of his illness and remained hospitalized until his death.
An autopsy determined that the Oceanside resident died of cancer, Jarjura said.
“We extend our condolences to the Davis family and those affected by his death,” the lieutenant said.
