President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party have been accused of repeating the mistakes of former President John Agyekum Kufuor in their conduct and stances on who will lead the party in the 2024 elections.
According to Retired Captain John Kwame Jabari, a 1street Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region, former President JA Kufuor’s choice for his successor as he left office was Alan Kyerementen, while the party’s rank and file fell into the hands of Nana Akufo-Addo, a situation that , according to him, caused an upheaval in the party.
He noted that the development was a mistake that is being repeated by President Akufo Addo and the government with their choice of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the favorite candidate.
“You see, Kufour wanted Alan to succeed him at the time, but it didn’t work, the electorate showed him that they were power lies, Nana Addo hasn’t learned and he, along with his people, because they think they have money, are putting pressure on Bawumia. to lead the PNP. it will not work, ”he said in an interview on Ultimate Fm.
The regional executive of NDC Regional Ashanti argued that the ruling New Patriotic Party and its history and culture reward loyalty and long-standing membership and sacrifices to the party, therefore Vice President Dr Bawumia has not achieved such credentials compared to Mr. Alan Kyeremanten.
“You can force a candidate on them, the PNP culture is ‘ye nim wu fre titi’ or ‘we know you from the beginning as a party member.’ Where was Bawumia when Alan and company were suffering from the party?” she questioned.
“The mistakes before 2008 are happening again and I pray that the PNP as a party disintegrates and divides,” he said.
