Kwara SDP leaders rejoin APC amid conditions



The Kwara State All Progressives Congress has detailed the process for the return of former party members who defected to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, before the last general election in the state.

The DAILY POST, however, reports that the case of a former lawmaker, Saheed Popoola, who also defected from the APC to the SDP, has been suspended for certain reasons yet to be determined by the APC.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting of a select committee made up of APC and SDP leaders in the state instructed defectors to begin the process of their absorption by re-registering with APC in their districts in their various local government areas.

The leadership meeting was called to formally welcome and discuss the gradual process of reconciliation and integration into the party.

The meeting chaired by the State Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, was attended by Mustapha Isowo, Olabanji, Duduyemi Lawal, Toyin Ayinla, Mallam Kure, Folaranmi Tajudeen, all representatives of the APC State Executive.

Representatives of SDP members wanting to move to the APC included chief Iyiola Akogun, Ganiyu Cook Olododo, ambassador Mohammed Abioye, engineer Shaba Lafiagi, Lukman Mustapha and Khalill Bolaji.

Speaking to the DAILY POST in Ilorin on Tuesday, Hon Ganiyu Cook Olododo confirmed the development, saying that it is a true and ongoing process.

The statement, signed by Tajudeen Folaranmi Aro, APC’s publicity secretary in the state, said they welcomed the campers to the party, but indicated that registration must be done in their respective districts.

The statement further stated that APC State Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi should properly instruct all party chairmen at local government and district levels to warmly welcome all decampees, subject to their full compliance with policies and existing APC directives. from the neighborhood to the national level.

The SDP leaders pledged their support and loyalty to the party executives as currently constituted in the state.

The statement explained that the integration of the decampeados remains a gradual and ongoing process, as the party president will convene meetings to bring together critical stakeholders to further consolidate relations.

Both parties recognized that they are of the same APC background originally and that coming together now is more of a meeting than anything else.

The statement stated that more meetings will be held to consolidate the achievements of the integration process to further strengthen the party.
