Hogwarts Legacy could be one of the best selling games in recent memory, but it was missing a feature that many fans would have liked to see: the sport of Quidditch brooms and balls. We now have official word that a Quidditch game set in the Harry Potter universe is coming, and while we don’t have all the details yet, here’s what we do know about the upcoming game.
What is this Quidditch game?
According to a recent announcement, the title of the game is Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, and it is a competitive multiplayer game that has been in development for several years. It will be a standalone game and will be published by Warner Bros. under the Portkey Games label, which is the label they use for the Harry Potter games.
What platforms does it come out for?
Currently, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is set for PC and unconfirmed consoles. It’s unclear when this decision will be made, but it will almost certainly be compatible with current-gen consoles in some way.
Who is making Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions?
The developer behind the game is Unbroken Studios, best known for their battle royale game Fractured Lands. The studio also co-developed the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with Arkham series developer Rocksteady Studios.
When will Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions be released?
The game currently does not have a set release date. However, there are limited play trials that will allow you to play an older version and you can sign up for them. here.
What other features are confirmed for Quidditch Champions?
At this early point, it’s hard to say what the game will and won’t include, but the developers have confirmed that you’ll be able to create your own competitors. It can also be played solo or with friends online, though no party limits have been confirmed. Also, it looks like Quidditch Champions will include “broomstick adventures” in addition to the titular sport, which means that flying on broomsticks will go beyond the pitch.
Does Quidditch Champions have JK Rowling’s approval or creative input?
The announcement seems to indicate that JK Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of Quidditch Champions, though she notes that she is “very supportive” of Portkey Games in general. She also says that all games created under the label will be “authentic” to the Wizarding World version of her.
Like Hogwarts Legacy, Quidditch Champions is likely to remain controversial due to Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s transphobic comments.
