Award-winning Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has revealed that he earned his first Naira million at the age of 17.
The Dumebi singer in a recent interview with Z100 New York revealed that he gave all the money to his mother.
Giving reasons, Rema said that his mother needed him more and that it was not appropriate for him to travel in cars when his mother did not have a car.
The Mavins singer added that he prioritizes his mother first. He is grateful to be able to support his family, as that is his greatest achievement.
“The person who knew I needed it the most was my mother. So, I handed over everything I made to her. I know it was cool driving around town when she was 17 in a cool whip. But I can’t drive a cool whip when my mom didn’t have a car or my mom has to borrow my keys. You know, I had to put her in first.
“Pass all that to her, whatever investment she makes… I made my first million [naira] At 17 but I made over a million But it’s great to be at that stage to be able to toast [for your family].”
He said: “Someone created an opportunity for me to bless the world so much. So, I can’t imagine how much the people I helped are going to bless the world. You know, I strive not only for myself. I go hard for them. As doors open for me, I want to open doors for them.”
Davido greets Rema, recounting his humble beginnings to his latest achievement
Just a few days ago, Davido expressed his pride in Rema, recognizing him as one of the leading Afrobeat singers in the Nigerian music industry.
During a radio interview on Kiss FM in the UK, the presenter asked about the singer’s views on the Afrobeats movement, prompting Davido to express his joy and admiration for fellow artist Rema.
He reminisced about the days when Rema used to hang out in his living room as a kid and how quickly he rose to stardom with the most popular Afrobeat song ever.
