Input Output CEO Charles Hoskinson teased the launch of ZK-rollups on Cardano.
during a LOVESHoskinson was asked why there was not “a lot of talk” about ZK rollups on the Cardano blockchain.
In response, he said that scaling technology is being incorporated in relation to the Midnight side chain. More details will follow later, Hoskinson said.
What are ZK-rollups?
ZK-rollups refer to a technology that pulls hundreds of transactions off the mainchain, validates each one using a zero-knowledge proof, and then bundles them into a single transaction, which the mainchain can verify using a SNARK (short argument not interactive for knowledge). ).
zero knowledge is an authentication method that allows the sender to prove that something is true without sending passwords, keys, or other sensitive information to the receiver.
The transaction batching process takes the computational load off the main chain, resulting in increased speed, with the zero-knowledge aspect of providing validation.
ZK rollups are typically associated with Ethereum, which relies heavily on Layer 2 scaling solutions to decrease base layer congestion and provide other benefits such as increased performance, better security, and privacy features.
Coming Soon to Cardano Midnight
In ZK-rollups for Cardanohoskinson said:
“There’s a huge, wonderful, beautiful plan for it, and it’s very much related to Midnight. We will talk about it at a later date.”
Midnight is a privacy-focused Cardano sidechain, allowing developers to build “data protection-first dApps” without fear of data breaches or censorship.
“[It] safeguards sensitive commercial and personal data, protecting the fundamental freedoms of association, commerce and expression of developers, companies and individuals”.
Although Hoskinson didn’t elaborate further on exactly how ZK rollups will be used, Midnight’s mention suggests it would have the ability to securely authenticate private data, rather than scale.
