The National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithful have been asked not to hold out any hope that ex-President Mahama will be president again in 2025, as he is history just like the late Atta Mills, Jerry John Rawlings and JA Kufuor.
The NDC’s hopes have been dashed by a former national officer, Solomon Nkansah, who insists that the party’s nominee in the 2016 and 2020 elections represents gloom and failure.
Speaking in Kumasi and justifying why Dr. Kwabena Duffour needs to have a chance over John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Nkansah said he twice failed to put up the numbers for the party to gain power but only boasts that he is better but he could not win the presidency.
“If you become a candidate and you don’t win, you can never be qualified as the best candidate. Also, when your best internally is suspect, in 2020, when everyone is trying to claim that he (Mahama) did well, the NDC as a party did better than him because when you compare the votes of 118 parliamentary candidates, some of the MPs others were defeated. They had two hundred and seventy-four thousand more votes than he did, so it can never be said that he was the better presidential candidate.”
“The interest of the NDC is not in a better presidential candidate, the interest of the NDC is to have a presidential candidate who goes to the elections and wins and becomes president, that is why the NDC was established as a political party”
“We are here to win elections; We are not to say that we place better than others. Mahama’s time has passed, now he is history as Atta Mills, Rawlings and JA Kufuor, all former presidents, he is now a former president. Mahama has lost twice; we have wasted time with him for not winning the elections. Mahama now represents the pain of the NDC, in 2016 and 2020,” he said.
He noted that Dr. Kwabena Duffour is best positioned to lead the NDC in the 2024 elections.
