Forget florals for spring, flannel is making a comeback. Yes, I mean the classic button-down shirt worn by a cowboy or 90s cool kid, or in this case, Kate Moss. Here is the Spring flannel trend for 2023 explained, in case you’re confused. Last September, Bottega Veneta’s Matthieu Blazy included what appeared to be a classic flannel shirt not just once, but twice in the brand’s collection. spring/summer ’23 collection. Among the trench coats, fringed skirts and evening wear, the understated simplicity of the flannel shirt immediately jumped out of the collection. The capture? The shirt (and corresponding jeans) were actually made of leather, though you’d have to feel it to know.
While the virality of Blazy’s flannel could be attributed to Kate Moss wearing it and the amazing leather material, the runway look made a strong case for a flannel renaissance, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Flannel shirts last reached their heyday in the ’90s, when grungy skateboarders and angsty pop stars made button-downs an essential part of their wardrobes. I would also say that flannel shirts made a brief comeback in 2010 (although that might have just been the impact of He Twilight Saga in my Pacific Northwest High School wardrobe).

Bottega Veneta; Stand out.
If you managed to stow your almost vintage flannel back in your closet, it’s time to bring it out again. The flannel itself has not changed its appearance: the resurgence of this trend can be attributed to a new form of style. No longer just a casual option for your camping trip or morning coffee, flannels are the star of an elevated outfit.
To get the runway look, focus on creating a look with basics, then amp it up with accessories. For example, an oversized cotton flannel shirt can be worn open with wide leg jeans, a ruched tank top, heels, a leather bag or clutch, and statement earrings for a look that works for day, night, or even the office, depending on your dress code. Alternatively, you can wear the shirt buttoned up and tucked into a long skirt with small heels and a statement bag for a unique evening look.
If you need more evidence that this trend is about to take off, the Bottega Veneta Leather Flannel It just hit online retailers and it’s already nearly sold out in every size on every site, and that’s with the price tag of almost $7k. Trendsetters in the fashion industry probably just got their flannel in a box from Net-a-Porter. If you want to join the first wave of the trend, I’ve included the best (most affordable) flannel options below.
