
The Federal Road Safety Corps in Ebonyi State has confirmed the death of 12 passengers in a traffic accident on Tuesday.
Sector commander Uche Chukwurah confirmed the development to reporters in Abakaliki, the state capital.
He said the accident occurred at the Ezillo end of the Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja highway.
Chukwurah said the accident involved a white Ford shuttle bus and a pink articulated vehicle.
He said: “The registration number of the shuttle bus is EBJ 350 XA, while the articulated vehicle has no registration number.
“Fourteen people were involved in the accident with 12 dead and two seriously injured.
“The dead are 10 men and two women, and the accident occurred around 10 in the morning.”
The Sector Commander added that the injured passengers were evacuated to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Hospital in Abakaliki for treatment.
Chukwurah added: “The FRSC sympathizes with the families of the dead and prays for the repose of their souls.
“We urge motorists to realize that life has no duplicates and drive to stay alive.”
An eyewitness who spoke to the Nigerian News Agency on condition of anonymity said the vehicles collided at high speed.
