NEW YORK (NEWS10) — Governor Kathy Hochul speaks at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York’s virtual press conference on the medical abortion rulings. The digital press conference began shortly after noon.
“We will continue to open our arms to all people seeking freedom and autonomy,” Hochul said as part of his remarks in response to a federal judge in Texas who blocked the FDA-approved mifepristone, a drug used to end early pregnancies. “We are going to win this fight.”
Speaking after several people fought to protect reproductive choice in the Empire State, Hochul highlighted steps New York has taken to ensure abortion rights. And in response to the Texas court ruling, she said the state will dedicate an additional $20 million to protect access to reproductive choice, stockpiling another abortion drug, misoprostol, and may require private insurance to better cover abortions.
Other speakers included:
- Wendy Stark, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater New York
- Dr. Gabriela Aguilar, Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Greater New York
- Niharika Rao, Co-Founder and Lead Organizer of Reproductive Justice Collective New York
