Jessica Whalley, a worker at Michael Owen’s stables, owned by former Liverpool star Michael Owen, fell to her death, according to police.
Hugo Palmer has been based at Manor House Stables, a state-of-the-art training facility near the Welsh border, for the past 12 months. It was built by Owen, a prominent Group 1 racehorse owner who, until they parted ways last year, worked in the yard with Tom Dascombe.
The stable announced the unfortunate event on social media, and Cheshire Police later that day verified the information.
“It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that a very valuable member of our team died on the job this morning.
“The family has been informed and both the family and the Manor House team request privacy at this time.”
Witnesses said Jessica Whalley, a 25-year-old horsewoman and former beauty queen, passed out and was not revived by paramedics, leaving Owen and Manor House Stables employees in tears.
He worked as a transport manager at the stables near Malpas, Cheshire, which are also run by the former striker’s daughter, Love Island star Gemma Owen, 19.
Ms Whalley, who used her first name in the community, identified herself as the “roaming head person” at Manor House Stables, as well as the employee of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Emirates United Arab Emirates, who is the owner of a major global network of Thoroughbred stables.
She was listed as one of the transport supervisors at Manor House Stables in official records released by the Traffic Commissioner’s Office this month.
She competed in the 2019 Miss Tourism Universe pageant, which was held in Beirut and shown on MTV, placing in the top 10.
The cyclist made it to the final 10 after representing the United Kingdom in the Miss Tourism Universe 2019 competition.

At around 8:50am on Tuesday, 25-year-old Jessica Whalley fell ill at Manor House Stables in Malpas, Cheshire, owned by former Liverpool star Michael Owen. Emergency personnel arrived at the stables but the woman was pronounced dead there, according to a Cheshire Police statement. Her relatives have been notified, according to police, and the death is not being investigated as suspicious.
Cheshire Police said in a statement:
“At around 8:50am today, Tuesday March 28, police learned that a 25-year-old woman had collapsed in a stable on Old Coach Road, Malpas.
“Emergency services responded to the scene and despite the best efforts of all involved, the woman sadly passed away at the scene.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and his relatives have been informed. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
