Before reading this article about best places to buy denim shorts, I feel that it is important that I reveal my relationship with denim shorts. Clearly, it’s been quite turbulent and tumultuous. I have vivid memories of standing in the dimly lit dressing rooms at the mall in high school and trying on shorts that were a lot too short to wear in public, and as much as I wanted to feel safe and “cool” in them, I didn’t. I felt uncomfortable. However, I bought my barely there shorts and spent my summer days sheepishly pulling them down to make sure I wasn’t cheekily pouting.
After this experience, I avoided jean shorts for years. and opted for ruffled skirts, dresses, and jeans instead—well, until I discovered Tumblr in 2013 and started creating my own denim shorts out of vintage Levi’s. I loved being able to make the shorts longer and that the high-waisted “mom” style hugged my curvier hips. decided to give buy denim shorts a second chance and just raised my standards.
I love comfortable jean shorts that cover my buttocks, cinch around the waist. and thighs and look cute with a crop top, tank, or leather jacket. Then again, who wouldn’t? Fortunately, most brands have ditched the micro-mini jean short look for everyday wear and introduced a wide variety of styles, washes, and fits.
