Ederson responds to Brazil ignoring Alisson: “I’m stunned, I don’t know why”

Manchester City’s Ederson has expressed surprise at Brazil’s decision to pass over Liverpool’s Alisson.

Alisson is Ederson’s rival for the Brazil goalkeeper job, but his country did not call him up for the international break in March.

Brazil will play a friendly march against Morocco on Saturday, being their only match during this international break.

Interim coach Ramón Menezes revealed his 23-man squad for the match earlier this month.

There were plenty of surprise omissions from the team and Alisson, who has been his country’s first-choice goalkeeper since around 2016, was definitely one of them.

“The first moment I saw the list it surprised me, but it is a coach’s decision. They’re options, I thought I’d be on the list, but I wasn’t,” Ederson told reporters before the game.

“I don’t know why, if it’s a matter of opportunities for the younger players.”
