He played flanker for Bay of Plenty, Perpignan, Canterbury and the Crusaders. He earned 22 caps for New Zealand between 1998 and 2002. He eventually moved to Japan, where he played for the Ricoh Black Rams, before retiring in 2007.
In 2020 and 2021, Scott Robertson coached the Crusaders to two successful Aotearoa Super Rugby Championships.
