Godwin Emefiele: Naira redesign will affect kidnappers and bandits


The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele He has ensured that the redesign of the naira is helping to curb kidnappings and banditry in the country.

He made the statement on Tuesday, January 31, when he appeared before the ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives.

Emefiele pleaded with lawmakers and Nigerians to show understanding, insisting that the CBNThe goal of ‘s is to address insecurity.

He also urged citizens to comply with all directives from the main bank so that the policy can be implemented smoothly.

The CBN governor said; “At this early stage, there will be problems, but it is to make the Nigerian economy better and stronger.

“The redesigned naira notes and CBN’s cashless policy have moderated inflation in the country and reduced the activities of kidnappers and bandits.

“Inflation is moderating, the exchange rate is stable and we expect the naira to be stronger.”
