Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand is preparing an update to its GV80 large SUV, and it’s slated to include a ‘Coupe’ model with a sloping rear roofline.
He 2024 Genesis GV80 Luxury SUV is due to a middle age facelift over the next 12 months, which spy photos indicate will include a ‘Coupe’ variant with a sportier look.
Images posted on the South Korean social media website autospy show a very camouflaged GV80 with a more dramatic sloping rear roofline, similar to the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and other ‘coupé’ versions of large luxury SUVs.
The camouflage on the rest of the vehicle, and visible changes to the bumpers, lights, and protruding wheels, indicate that the new body style will arrive with the mid-life update for Genesis’ Largest SUV to date.
Based on the timing of those photos, the facelifted GV80 may be unveiled before the end of this year, but it’s not expected to hit Australian showrooms until next year.
The slope of the roofline, and the prominent edge spoiler on the edge of the tailgate, of the spied prototype is very similar to the scale model seen in the 2021 video.
If its rivals, and the angle of the rear roofline, are any guide, the GV80 Coupe may lose its third row of seats and become a five-seater only.
The concept coupe features some of the changes to come with the mid-life update to the range-wide GV80, including a new front grille design, upgraded matrix LED headlamps inspired by the G90 limousine overseas, modified taillight graphics and what appears to be new. alloy wheels
The interior of the concept car was also photographed, but it’s hard to tell if there have been any changes, as the cockpit is largely covered in black cloth.
But red seatbelts and stitching, black leather seats, and carbon-fiber accents on the door panels suggest the facelift may feature a GV80 Sport variant, similar to the GV70, G70, and G80 models. .
This model could also add rear-wheel steering, like on the G80 Sport sedan, and revised settings for the vehicle’s steering and suspension systems.
The current GV80 range is powered by a choice of 224kW/422Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, 204kW/588Nm 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesels and V6 engines. 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol engine with 279 kW/530 Nm.
