Ugwuanyi donates fireball extinguishers to Enugu markets

In To further his administration’s proactive measures to combat fire outbreaks, prevent, control and extinguish fires in Enugu State, especially during this dry season, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday donated Millions of Naira worth of Fire Ball extinguishers to all the main markets of the state.

Speaking during the handover of fire fighting equipment to market leaders at the Enugu State Fire Station head office in Enugu, State Fire Marshal Eng. Okwudiri Ohaa explained that the Ball Fire Extinguishers de Fuego will act as palliatives in the event of a fire outbreak in the markets.

Ohaa recalled that Governor Ugwuanyi approved in 2019 the installation of different types and sizes of fire extinguishers in more than 27 markets in the state, adding that the governor in his proactivity and commitment to the safety of life and property extended the equipment to all major markets in the state. Emphasizing the importance of fireball extinguishers in the market, the state fire marshal noted that “if a fire breaks out in our markets without the necessary mitigation measures, it could lead to a disastrous situation.”

Ohaa therefore praised Governor Ugwuanyi for being a leader sensitive to the plight of his people. He revealed that the governor has also approved the establishment of a mini fire service station at Ogige Market, Nsukka, adding that the construction of the building has been completed.

The Fire Chief also revealed that Governor Ugwuanyi further approved the establishment of a Fire Unit in the Orba International Market, the deployment of a fire truck and a Rapid Response Vehicle to

Ohaa, who expressed his gratitude that Governor Ugwuanyi had repositioned the Enugu State Fire Service transforming it from a moribund

government to an effective and more responsive department, revealed that

the firefighters who will attend the new Mini Fire Service stations had been recruited and were currently undergoing Basic Firefighter Training.

He announced that the construction of a proper modern head office of the State Fire Service in Enugu by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration has been completed pending the inauguration by the Governor.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Barr. Dr. Kingsley Udeh applauded Governor Ugwuanyi for the proactive measures his administration is implementing to safeguard the lives and property of merchants and all the people of the state.

Dr. Udeh therefore urged the people of Enugu State, particularly those of Enugu North Senatorial District, to reciprocate the governor’s gesture.

In reaction, traders in all 37 markets in the state, under the auspices of the Enugu State Amalgamated Traders Association (ESMATA), praised Governor Ugwuanyi for successfully ensuring the safety of

all markets in the state.

Elated traders revealed that Ugwuanyi had written his name in gold as the first governor since the inception of Enugu State to positively transform the State Fire Service for optimal results.

They said that the governor in his magnanimity and dedication

for their well-being presented the new Merchant Empowerment Scheme that

helped them grow their various businesses with the sum of N50,000 each won through open raffles, adding that youth employment in the State Fire Service had not only given unemployed youth work, but had also contributed to the establishment’s success story

In his speech, ESMATA Chairman Chief Stephen Aniagu stressed that Governor Ugwuanyi’s love for merchants is enormous, and prayed to God, into whose hands he said the governor entrusted the state, to continue

victory in the next senatorial elections.
