This was just as the FCT Administration promised to improve security for the safety of residents’ lives and property.
Reacting to the report in a brief interview with our correspondent, FCT Police Public Relations Officer DSP Josephine Adeh rejected the statistics in the story, but acknowledged that there were a “couple of security breaches” in the capital of the nation. However, she assured FCT residents that the police lived up to their responsibilities.
Adeh said: “It is impossible to confirm a report whose data was not generated by the police, the organization has a statutory responsibility to protect life and property and by extension has such a history of security breaches.
“However, there were a couple of security breaches in the FCT, which were combined with several arrests, the recovery of firearms and the neutralization of criminal elements. A balanced report should not forget to record that.
“We want to reassure residents that things are not going to be business as usual. A lot has drastically changed with the arrival of the new year and the change of management.
“The FCT’s security architecture has been reviewed from a new angle, making the successful perpetration of crime even more difficult. In the meantime, we urge members of the public to carry out their legal duties without fear of being hassled or harassed by any side, even as they continue to collaborate with law enforcement by providing timely and credible information to catalyze the commando’s fight against crime and criminality”.
