According to her father, Mr. James Maina, he last spoke to his daughter on December 11, 2022 at 8 pm “She informed me that she was preparing dinner and that she was with her older sister. He told me to say hello to his mother,” Mr. Maina said at his Langalanga home in Gilgil Township.
Mary did not want to miss the party she had been invited to. She said that she would be back in the morning. Her sister informed detectives and her family that Ms. Wangui was always on the phone with someone requesting an explanation for her lateness.
The next day, her body was found abandoned on the side of the road. Only after receiving a tearful phone call from her pastor did Mary’s father learn of her passing.
He claims that despite being the last child in the family, he still has not managed to accept the death of his daughter.

What was the reported cause of death?
According to an autopsy, the young woman died of suffocation.
Her body was naked, her phone, ID, and bag were all there.
I was suffocated. The doctor said that her lungs lacked somewhere to get air, so she choked on the food she had eaten.
I don’t know why anyone would want to kill her.”
A court in Molo has given police permission to hold Micah Kiprotich, the main suspect in the murder of Nakuru resident Angeline Mary Wangui, for 14 days until they complete their investigations.
The suspect must remain at the Menengai Police Station for two weeks before appearing in court to plead guilty, according to a directive from Chief Magistrate Elena Nderitu.
Detectives will collect information from the suspect’s phone during this time. Before appearing in court to answer for murder, he will also be transferred to the Nakuru level five hospital for a mental evaluation.
“The suspect will be detained at Menengai Police Station until January 27, when the case will be brought up to confirm whether officers have completed their investigations before he answers to murder charges,” the magistrate ruled.
Who was Micah Kiprotich?
Kiprotich, 26, has been linked to his savage murder. The body of a 21-year-old woman was discovered last month abandoned near Ngata-Bridge on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
The magistrate stated that the situation required her to approve the police request due to the scope and complexity of the inquiries provided by Investigating Officer Jared Omusungu.
Detective Omusungu of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations claimed in his appeal to the court that the suspect disappeared after committing the crime until he was found hiding on the Kitale-Eldoret highway on January 11.
Is the suspect fit to stand trial?
Police sought more time to subject the suspect to a mental evaluation to determine if he is fit to stand trial. According to the investigating officer, the police also wanted more time to extract some samples from the suspect that will be taken to the government chemist for analysis on him.
Mr. Omusungu also informed the court that the suspect’s phone will be taken to the cybercrime section so that important information can be extracted to help in investigations.
The detective pleaded with the judge for more time, saying, “We pray that the court will grant us additional days to complete our investigations. We still have to record witness testimony, if the court gives us 14 days it will help.”
On Wednesday night, Mr. Kiprotich, a medical student at Kabarak University, was smoked out of his hideout in Uasin Gishu county.
Entry Level Investigations
Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said the suspect, a student at Kabarak University, was driven from his hideout in Uasin Gishu county on Wednesday night.
He said the 26-year-old student has been on the police radar for the past month. Mr. Mwanzo said his investigation revealed that the suspect sent money to Ms. Wangui. She was supposed to use the money as a bus ticket to the party venue.
He said police established that the suspect was the last person with the deceased in the area where her body was found. However, he said that the nature of the crime could not have been committed by a single person.
