Following a series of rumors and hotfixes, Xbox and Bethesda have formally unveiled an upcoming Developer Direct for January 25, while stating that Starfield will not be updated. To give it its comeuppance, Xbox and Bethesda are currently participating in a standalone showcase for a “deep dive” into Starfield gameplay.
Many people were surprised to learn that Microsoft didn’t reveal any new games and even featured actual trailers at The Game Awards 2022. This raised some questions about the Xbox 2023 lineup, though Xbox’s vice president of advertising and marketing acknowledged at the time that the company would disclose more information quickly.
That same government teased a “fun week” for the Xbox version this week, which was followed by reviews of this showcase.
The development director will offer fans an “internal test of games coming to Xbox, PC, and Game Go in the coming months,” according to the announcement, which includes The Elder Scrolls Online, Forza Motorsports, Minecraft Legends, and Redfall. Because these are the only games played, the language is pretty definitive, but this level of communication is really welcome. Many people have been worried about what Starfield’s absence would mean, but revealing that a standalone program was already in the works was a smart move on Microsoft’s part.
