

A man that he killed his wifethen barricaded himself inside his Chula Vista home and engaged in a nearly 24-hour standoff with police, he was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years to life in state prison.
John Partain, 65, was convicted of second-degree murder for the murder of his wife of more than 30 years, Billie Jean Partain, 74. He was also convicted on a charge of using a hammer in the murder. The criminal complaint filed against Partain alleges that the murder occurred three days before he was involved in a confrontation with chula vista policewhich ended with his arrest.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on February 25, 2021, dispatchers from the Chula Vista Police Department received a call stating that Partain had confessed to a relative that he had killed his wife, had a weapon, and had suicidal intent. , according to Chula Vista Police Lt. Miriam Foxx. .
Officers tried to speak to Partain at his Glover Avenue home, but he refused to leave and would not allow officers inside to check on his wife, Foxx said.
According to the lieutenant, Partain “made numerous statements that he wanted to die by ‘police suicide’ and repeatedly confessed to the murder of his wife.”
He was arrested around 6:00 pm the next day. Billie Jean Partain was found dead inside the home, Foxx said.
