What you need to know about: How families with undocumented children can access free child care in NYC?

On December 14, the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, announced the launch of the “Promise NYC” program to provide childcare services for undocumented children with low-income parents in New York City.

The $10 million dollar program aims to serve 600 children between January and June 2023. The city has contracted four community organizations that will be in charge of screening and selecting the immigrant families they need to care for their children. .

The Chinese American Planning Council (CPC) will handle applicants in Queens. The Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) will manage the program in Manhattan and the Bronx, while La Colmena will serve families on Staten Island. The Center for Family Life will launch the initiative in Brooklyn and the New York Administration for Child Services (ACS) will oversee the program.

Parents or guardians should contact the community-based organization that covers the county where the applicants live. The organization will ask for information about family size, income, and relationship to the child.
