
South Africa reined in their nerves on Day 5 against Australia as the third and final Test ended in a draw in Sydney. The hosts claimed the rain-interrupted series 2-0, but missed the clean sweep. South Africa started Day 5 at 149/6 after Australia declared their innings at 475/7 on day four. Australia bowled out the visitors for 255 and gave a follow up before the game ended in a draw with South Africa at 106/2. Usman Khawaja, who was stranded at 196 and not out after Australia declared their innings, was declared Man of the Match, while David Warner was declared Player of the Series.
In a rare incident on Day 5 of the match, Australia were penalized 5 runs due to an error by Alex Carey.
In over 94 of South Africa’s innings, Travis Head bowled a low pitch to Simon Harmer, which passed between wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s legs and hit the helmet behind him. Under cricket rules, South Africa was awarded five penalty runs.

This left Head and Carey completely disappointed, as the latter could be seen smiling in disbelief.
Speaking of the match, South Africa batted for an equalizer on the final day of the third Test in Sydney on Sunday, denying Australia a full series.
Australia entered the rain-ravaged fifth day of the Test which required 14 wickets for victory, but the Proteas comfortably overcame the threat to win a first draw in their last 47 Tests since 2017. The teams shook hands with five overs remaining and South Africa at 106 for two in his second innings with Sarel Erwee unbeaten at 42 and Temba Bavuma at 17.
