STORMS IN ACTION
As Hurricane Nicholas continues to pose flood hazards in Texas and Louisiana, a large area of low pressure, located a few hundred miles northeast of the Bahamas, is producing heavy rains and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions appear favorable for the development of a tropical depression that would then move toward the northwestern United States, leaving Florida out of harm’s way. The probability of training for the next 48 hours is 60%.
In contrast, a tropical wave is expected to emerge off the west coast of Cape Verde in Africa within a day or two. It is now the middle of September and it is quite possible that the systems will develop and follow one another more quickly. This is the most threatening period of the hurricane season, which normally ends on 1er December.

On September 14, Florida reported 11,300 new coronavirus cases statewide. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that Florida has recorded a daily average of 12,465 new cases and 325 deaths in the past seven days. While the number of new cases in the state has decreased, the number of deaths from the virus has continued to rise. Epidemiology experts predict that it could stabilize by the end of September.
