Back to school in Yemen, in tents and among the wreckage of the bombing

In the school yard near the capital Sana’a, tents are being set up in which more than 700 students, separated by gender, are stacked for the beginning of the new year. They return to school for another year without being able to enter the classrooms destroyed six years ago by the bombing and war in Yemen.

“It is extremely difficult for pupils, students and teachers to endure the stifling heat in tents,” says Ruqaiya Musaed, a third-grade science teacher, as she leaves one of the completely dark tents with as many as 48 students.
