Eastmans
Leave a discussion question or comment about the series at the bottom of this page. I’ll get back to you.
These books are now in e-book format. I will be getting them in print later. A big change is that I’ve pulled two books from the series and made them standalones. Soon, I’ll be adding books and make these books the start of their own series.
A Magical Moment, where Taylor the heroine is Kara’s best friend Heart’s Desire, is out of place with the rest of the series due to the suspense and paranormal content (Taylor is psychic in Heart’s Desire and that is the main thread in A Magical Moment). Taylor’s love interest owns ESP, Emerson Surveillance and Protection, a private detective agency. With Taylor being psychic and all, it follows that there will be some stories investigated there that are very interesting, with new romances blooming too.
I pulled the Look of Love because those characters are only peripherally connected to the Eastmans, and the theme of the book is weight and self-image, a big theme for any romance. I really, really want to explore this theme in some other books.
The Eastman series is a dramatic series on that family member’s romances–Kara, Tiffany, and Jenny. There is a woman’s fiction’s tone to these books, they are bigger than a simple romance.
Overview and series order.,
Think Tyler Perry without Madea, humor without the slapstick (or stereotypes), and plenty of family drama! Most main characters are African-American, but supporting characters are diverse.
#1 Heart’s Desire is a fast-paced family drama. My heroine, Kara, is thirty years old. She was raised in a fundamentalist Christian religion and has just broken free of it upon her mother’s death. She also discovered the name of her real father, a man she thought was dead. Her father is the infamous right wing conservative congressman, Sidney Eastman, who rejected and abandoned her mother when he discovered she was pregnant. Grief-stricken, Kara flips into revenge mode. She decides to get to her father via his right hand man, his assistant, Brent Stevens.
#2 Never Too Late for Love’s Heart’s Desire connection is this is Tiffany’s story, the horrid Sidney Eastman’s beleaguered and alcoholic wife. She’s mature, in her late forties, and both she and the hero, Jason, have adult children. Jason is a cardiovascular surgeon and Taylor’s father.
“Never Too Late For Love still makes my grade. It’s romantic, it’s funny, and it’s heartwarming. And I find myself cheering for Tiffany who tries her darned best to come up on top despite all the hard knocks life has given her. And when I find myself dissecting every tiny details about the characters, even to creating ghoulish torture sessions for Jason’s cowardly son Jared, I realize I’m hooked. Somehow Tiffany and Jason have become some fascinating characters to me, and I find myself wishing I can know more about their future, their past. And since it’s been awhile a book prompted such postmortem dissections and an urge to reread, I’d have to give this book a space on my keeper shelf.” Mrs Giggles
#3 Too Hot To Handle. Hell hath no fury like a woman SCORNED. Jenny Eastman doesn’t bother to get mad when she can get even. Jenny’s best friend, Stacie, was dumped by Jared (Never Too Late). Although warned about Jared Cate’s, her new step-brother, track record with women, Jenny, and a posse of Jared’s other ex-squeezes, are determined to turn the tables on him. I redeem Jenny Eastman. It’ll be hard to believe if you’re fresh from reading Heart’s Desire, but you will care for her. She has worked hard at turning her life around. This book has more of a chick lit feel rather than straight romance. It follows three of Jenny’s friends, and has a touch of interracial romance there too.
Again, leave any questions or discussion points at the bottom of the page. I love to hear from you. If you have props, you can leave them on that book’s page. They are much appreciated. Thanks for reading!
I have just finished reading ‘Hearts desire’. Very keen to read all other books linking these characters. Please could you confirm the order I should read them. I presume the order of the books on this page, but would like to be sure. I loved reading your book and can not wait to read others.
Many thanks
Sarah jones
Thanks for your kind comments, Sarah.
The order they are listed in is:
Heart’s Desire
A Magical Moment — Taylor’s story
Never Too Late for Love — Tiffany’s story
The Look of Love — Carmel’s story (an Eastman friend)
Too Hot to Handle — Jenny’s story
As long as you read Heart’s Desire first, reading the others out of order is fine. You can read which character’s story you’re most interested in. Some people are dying to read about Tiffany right away, others want to read Jenny’s story first.
Some people want to read about Carmel next, a heroine who weighs around 225 pounds, with weight a significant issue in that romance (as it would usually be in reality) because they are interested in that story theme.
I just finished reading Heart’s Desire and I must say that it is an outstanding book and I have recommended to a couple of my girlfriends who love to read. I am so looking forward to reading the other books that follow. I am so glad that I ran across the book when I was searching for book to read after I got my nook for christmas. Keep up the good work, and may God continue to bless you.
Thanks Tanisha! I appreciate your comments and blessings to you too.
I just read Heart’s Desire. I notice you don’t have a story about the son Dante’. Will you be writttng one on him? Oh, by the way I enjoyed the story.
Dante’s story is told in the other books. He doesn’t have a book of his own.
