I made my blog registration only for fear that my tender underbelly might get dinged. But then what do I do?
I go all irreverent on RTB for hordes, hordes, I tell you, of people to read! Sigh.
My topic? (reworded for delicacy, of course) Why can’t all these fatty-fat McFat romance authors write more fat heroines, dammit!?
(and I’m not calling the kettle black! I’ve parked my fat rear in front of this computer and typed out plenty of fat romance heroines with these fat little fingers!)
(slinking away to set up filters for the hate e-mails from fat romance authors)
Go forth, comment and tell me what you think!
Do you want to read more books with fat heroines? Why or why not?
Do you think fat authors should be writing about fat people also, not just non-fat ones?
Do you think we avoid reading about fat people because so many of us are fat ourselves and don’t like it? Do you think it’s possible to be fat, healthy, happy and in love or is that unrealistic?
Is it not PC to use the word fat? Do you prefer voluptuous or zaftig? (Personally, I use the word fat for the same reason I tend to use the words penis or dick instead of, say, the term, turgid manhood in my fiction, the former are both short, direct and accurate).
Actually I love books featuring rubenesque women, it kinda gives hope that a really hot guy can see past the layers of fat to the person underneath.
I wonder if my perspective would be different if I was fat myself?
The Rubenesque category at EC is pretty much the only one, where I’ve read all of the books, mostly because there aren’t enough of them.
As far as I’m aware, I do think that EC and other ebook romance publishers are the only ones who embrace books with fat/overweight/large/rubenesque/big boned heroines.
I may be a lone voice though because I guess if other people loved them, more authors would make their heroines fatter, or at the very least more well rounded.
I think Category romance books are the worst offenders actually, I recall reading a Harlequin something or other where the heroine was “large boned”. The front cover however, was graced by a reed thin model. Go figure.
Apparently fat chicks on romance covers don’t sell very well.
I wonder how that e-book category does sell? I wonder if it is sales or that particular myopia New York has until something is brought to their attention? After all, they didn’t realize black folks read until the mid nineties.
My pub refused to put a fat model on my cover with my 200 lb + heroine even tho’ I begged (but if I ever got my cover preference I’d probably stroke out in shock).
I closed comments here so folks would comment at the RTB post. I meant to do so earlier, but I forgot!
